15-year-old Whittier resident never lost positive attitude in fight against illness

Jacob Pete Avalos, Whittier resident and Whittier High School student, died from leukemia Nov. 13. He was 15. Jacob was born March 3, 1995 at Doctor's Hospital of Lakewood to parents Maricela Caldera and Joe Avalos. He had three sisters and one brother: Yvette, Yvonne, Cynthia and Joseph.
